About us

The Group has set up by James Trebinski and Laurence Smith, who both have their fair share of experience in running, maintaining and owning oscillating steam locos in the form of the Mss and Mamod variety. Both starting with humble bog-standard Mss loco and have used many mamodification parts to improve and personalise their locos to what they have become today.  "Ofario" and "Britomart" are their flagship locos and have shown to become reliable and powerful little workhorses, occasionally surprising crowds at exhibitions or at other garden railways. Double heading the two lead to a 32 wagon train consisting of heavy bogie wagons, wooden 4 wheelers and some accucraft wagons being towed round at a garden meet up, surprising not only their owners, but several other people in attendance.

We aim to build a portable layout for people who run methylated spirit, gas, tablet or coal burning oscillator locos that will allow them to show off their locos without the constraints of a running slot system. We also aim to create a group of friendly people who could possibly open their gardens to oscillator themed events providing no one leaves behind too many melted sleepers!

Some oscillators have been given a bad name, however, with a bit of tinkering and, in some cases, a lot of patience, that lump of coal can turn into a diamond and be a valued part of anyone's fleet.
Other oscillators are well known for their power and ability to run at a sedate pace whilst pulling a considerable load and in some cases, they are known for their incredible speed bursts and spectacular fireworks displays!

Be it gas, methylated spirits, tablet or a coal burner, if it oscillates and you'd like to share and feature it in our Photo of the Fortnight gallery, please Email it with a suitable caption to:
